Founded in Gainesville in 2015 by the Brazilian composer Victor Souza, Maca Reggae Samba mixes Jamaican reggae with Brazilian samba, producing a positive result in the land of Uncle Sam. In 2016, the band received the Brazilian Press Award for best Brazilian band working in the United States. The group has performed all over the East Coast, Brazil, and this year will cross the frontier into Japan! This special show will record Maca Reggae Samba's first DVD and celebrate the band's 3 years of success. The event will include guest artists who have influenced and supported Maca throughout the development of "reggae samba". The show will open with the world-renowned Brazilian guitarist Ulisses Rocha, presenting the best of Brazilian instrumental music. Next, Maca Reggae Samba will take the stage, presenting each song of the bands repertoire with a guest artist from Gainesville's ecclectic music scene, including: Scott Wilson, Corey Souza, Carissa Lawrence, Blake Briand, David Cotton, Josh Hinttermister, and Wilson Stern, among others.
