Florida Gator legend Steve Spurrier will speak at the University Auditorium on Monday, February 13th, at an event hosted by ACCENT Speakers Bureau.
Steve Spurrier has had a notable and wide-ranging football career, beginning as the starting quarterback of the Florida Gators and winning the Heisman Trophy in 1966. After a 10-year career in the National Football League, Spurrier returned to his alma-mater as a coach, leading the Gators to six conference titles and the school’s first ever national championship in 1996.
Throughout his 26 years of coaching, Spurrier has won 319 games, making him one of the most successful coaches in college football history. In addition, Spurrier recently became a member of the 2017 College Football Hall of Fame class, making him the fourth person in history to be inducted as both a player and a coach.
Spurrier retired from coaching in 2015 and now serves as an ambassador and consultant for the Gators athletic program. In June 2016, the Gators honored Spurrier by officially changing their field’s name to Steve Spurrier- Florida Field at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.
