In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, we will be joined by historian Dr. Paul Ortiz for a reading from his most recent book, An African American and Latinx History of the United States. The book details the intersectional struggle for civil rights in this nation, spanning more than 200 years, and highlights the networks of solidarity shared between African American and Latinx organizers resisting capitalism and colonialism. The book was the 2018 Winner of the PEN Oakland/Josephine Miles Literary Award. Dr. Ortiz is a professor of history at UF and is the current Director of the Samuel Proctor Oral History Project.
