Abortion access in Florida is being challenged, and now is the time to act. The Forced Parental Consent bill (“SB 404”) is a trojan horse bill intended to destroy Florida’s version of Roe v. Wade. SB 404 would require minors to obtain parental consent – or go before a judge – prior to receiving an abortion. It would require young people deemed too "immature" to have an abortion to become parents instead. We oppose these bills as bad public policy that will further endanger our already at risk young people. But we also recognize passing this legislation is just the first step in a much larger and more alarming plan to have our constitutional right to privacy reinterpreted to no longer safeguard access to abortion in one of the last places it’s still available in the entire southeast – Florida.
