The above concert is a cooperative venture between the electronic music studio of the University of Florida (FEMS - USA) and the Folkwang-Hochschule (ICEM, Essen - Germany). This exchange is going to take place this spring with the additional generous support of the GNMR (Gesselschaft für Neue Musik Ruhr). The project is titled "The Two Sided Triangle." The idea of James Paul Sain (University of Florida) and Javier Alejandro Garavaglia (ICEM - GNMR), "The Two Sided Triangle" will present works composed in Germany. The festival concert will include works by Neuhaus, Ollertz, Brümmer, Reith, and Garavaglia. Javier Garavaglia will curate this festival exchange concert; he will also play viola on his piece.
James Paul Sain, Florida Electroacoustic Music Festival Director, will visit Essen, Germany, in May of 1998 to present a concert of American tape works and conduct workshops.
It is hoped that the event will be repeated in 1999 (if possible, adding a third part to this "incomplete triangle"). We believe that this kind of cooperation is not only a vehicle to present new music but also will encourage people of different countries and cultures to get to know each other much better.
