Bo Diddley performed a free concert for thousands of fans on the steps of the Hippodrome Theatre. The concert was held on Bo Diddley Day, declared by Gainesville Mayor pro tem Gary Gordon. This was a benefit concert to raise awareness about homelessness in Alachua County and to raise money for local charities including the Red Cross. Bo Diddley suffered a stroke the next day.
